Good place to overnight for Dunkirk or Calais

Post by Pandion »

Lots of you probably know this but there's a really good Aire in a town called Gravelines, about 15 minutes drive from Dunkirk. It's easy to find, next to the marina . The town itself is not bad and there is a nice old fort you can walk around. I think it's best to get there early as its popular with the Germans and Dutch as well as the French. However as the aforesaid are usually in giant coach built mobile hotels we found it was quite easy to park our little T25 Westy between 2 of the giants. It actually looked quite funny :D

It's ideal for an early start. You are supposed to pay 6 euros to park there but the machines were out of order - I was told by one German camper owner that this is 'usually the case' , I think he was caught between being please dot save the money and being disgusted with French inefficiency.

Yes I can second that as we have been there twice. Grande Fort Phillipe and Petite Fort Phillipe. A pretty good campsite at Grande Fort Phillipe too.
