Suggested itinery for 10 days in Vietnam?

Post by italianjob »

hello there

knowing that many of the club members are well travelled Alan Wickers and Michael Palins - can anybody suggest a rough itinery for approx 10 days in Vietnam at the end of ctober/start of November. not the most of ideal times to go but thats when my birthday is so thats when we're going (thats what I said to Mrs italianjob who, on most occasions, gets her own way,,,,but not this time.

My second hand lonely planet arrived today, so i haven't had a chance to read it yet. Looking to fly into hanoi and make our own way down south to Ho Chi Min.

Thought i'd try here first. As an old hippy friend of mine said to me one time ' a true traveller never arrives..........' peace out man. 8)

ta for now :ok

cant suggest an itinery. too many great things to see. take as little as poss, buy a big bag and bring loads back. you will have a great time, lovelypeople, lovely country so make it up as you go along. if you want clothes go to hoi an. they can knock up copies of anything. not my thing but met people very happy with their chanel/dior stuff made in a day or two. disregard lonely planet warnings. enjoy being a dong millionaire when you use the cashpoint.if you need to cross th road in saigon just walk out in front of the stream of motorbikes. they will avoid you. you will understand that when you get there
tunnels at chu chi very touristy but worth a laugh to hear about the american oppressors and see how they lived in those tunnels. make your way out on the bus but come back by boat . have a great time

Have you tried asking the same question on the thorn tree forum on the lonely planet website? in fact you will find that the question will have been asked many times before with plenty of replies.

I found thorn tree much more helpful than the lonely planet books when we were travelling, it's also free and dosen't take up space in your backpack.
