1st gear aaaargh!! .... tinware sourcing

Post by 82camper »

hi
this is my first technical post as after much research i'm not sure what to do for the best ..
first gear does not always engage properly and sometimes pops out of gear after pulling away, after finding several threads regarding this issue i tried adjusting spline 1 notch which closed everything up and caused reverse to be achieved without pushdown and very close to first but didn't solve popping out,as this didn't fix it i turned it back to original place and have just ordered selector fork repair kit to see if that helps.. oh and i've removed drain plug which was fine ...it will often stay in first from second but not every time .i'm desperate to get this sorted as currently wife wont drive it until i get it fixed !! should i be looking at refurbin whole gear lever and selector bushes or does anyone have a accurate diagnosis??? also whilst recently installing block of plate for old fuel pump noticed tinware corrosion (warm air duct rear my best guess) looks like would channel air onto finned underside of cylinder head not completely gone but funneled sweeping section missing...how important is this and if i need new one where can i get one as looked everywhere???

Really need a photo of the tinware to know which bit you're talking about... some parts are findable, some aren't. Some can be adapted from other engines or made easily.
