Off Road Insurance
When I bought the Syncro, and insured it, they told me specifically that I wasn't covered for off-road use. Is this normal? Does this mean that all the regular off-roaders have seperate (or additional) cover, or do they just wing it, and hope for the best?

Did you tell them you were going to use it off road? Most events are covered by insurance for damage to people and land but not vehicles. Certainly over here in Ireland, if you take your vehicle off road or use it in competition your insurance will not cover you.
What sort of insurance were you hoping for?

Re: Off Road Insurance
I was trying to clarify the position re off-roading and insurance. If you have an accident/fire/collision on the way to a meeting, you're covered. But if you roll your Syncro will driving off road, I take it that it's not covered? What if it catches fire while stood in a field? No cover?
I'm not likely to go tearing round the Welsh mountain tracks any time in the near future, but if I did, I'd like to think that I at least SOME cover, if anything was to happen while I was.

That's why you always go with someone. So they can tow to the road
I've tried to write this several times but I'm struggling to give you an answer.
I think the fact you are worried about it means it won't be an issue for you.
Good luck,
Ringo

Re: Off Road Insurance
As far as Im aware, and I stand to be corrected, I imagine at best you will only have 3rd party insurance. As I said before, if you are part of an event then the event covers people and places but not vehicles. So if you roll, burst into flames or hit someone else you are on your own!

I'd have thought it was covered for everything but damage caused by the off-roading, but any damage you do to the van is out of your pocket, not covered. If it's parked up and catches fire, you'd be covered. If you rip a fuel line off on a rock, and that sets it alight, not covered.
When you think about the relative likelihood of damage, compared to driving on-road, the premium would have to be so high as to make you run screaming.
Same with trackdays.

Re: Off Road Insurance
Green Laning is on the public highway so you are fully covered for that as long as taxed mot'd and insured
read the terms and conditions and see what it actually says
MSA event insurance at club Syncro events doesn't cover vehicle damage only people and property, driver is responsible for driving the vehicle and assessing the risk same as normal life

Re: Off Road Insurance
So if i slide down a hill and rear end the van in front would the van I hit be payed out? That's property, but also a vehicle.
Of course this would never happen as only a simpleton would attempt to offroad with unsuitable tyres fitted...
(There in the bin now, A/Ts are on)
