Right just been out for a 10 mile drive in the bus connected to VCDS, viewing measuring blocks for RPM, Coolant Temp and a few others
Now in the whole drive my coolant temp didnt go above 55 Degrees (happy with that) and at 60 MPH i was doing 3000ish RPM im also happy ish with that, ive got a 4 sp box, what are your thoughts on the RPM is that good bad or indifferent? also does anyone else have a similar RPM at 60 and what is your MPG at say 50, 60 and 70 MPH
RPM at 60MPH???????

Shouldn't a TDi run at 90C? Have you checked the thermostat?
I get 70mph at 3050rpm but that is in a Syncro westy with longer gears fitted.
It purrs at 60 mph and the gearing is about bob on even when fully loaded.
I would expect you to be getting between 30 and 35 mph at about 60mph.

You shouldn't be. That's WAY too low. At a rough guess, the 'stat is missing or stuck open.
Revs-to-road speed isn't dependent on the type of engine fitted, only on the gearbox ratios and tyre sizes.

Re: RPM at 60MPH???????
I fitted a 80 degree stat from brickwerks, stats fine, only other thing is the coolant pipe layout is incorrect, why shouldnt i be happy its running on the cooler side? but then its better to be to low than to high lol
I know road speed is down to the gearbox ratios/rolling radius of the wheels and not the engine, my point was is 3000 at 60 the norm or am i massively over reving, and if i am what gearbox code should i be looking at fitting

Re: RPM at 60MPH???????
regards to the revs.
get the code from your box ,
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... fo/gbx.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; -this will tell you what you have from the codes
fill in this ,
http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and hey presto - it will tell you what your revs are and if your instruments are accurate!
google is your friend!

Thank you, by the figures my bus should max out at 88 MPH so all i need now is a flux capacitor and i can travel back in time and get a brand new T25
You also have a PM

Re: RPM at 60MPH???????
If you are looking for a new gearbox this website, Mfactory gear ratios, allows you to put in the two sets of gear ratios and see a graph of the proposed new results compared to your current setup. It also allows you to alter the tyre size to see what difference that makes too.
So get the ratios from Brickwerks and then post up on here just to check that your proposed new box will actually fit (Aircooled ones are different according to Aidan so you have to be careful)
