1Z Battery light wire
Hi all got my 1Z in and running, the loom has a Blue wire that goes to the battery light on the dash, the only way the alturnator will charge is if this wire has a 12v feed to start the charge so to speak, and way ive tried connecting this to an ign live but it doesnt turn the engine off on the key, ive looked on the wiring diag but it just shows it going into the cluster, my cluster is fooked and needs a new printed ciruict board so i cant connect it to the batt light, any ideas?

Re: 1Z Battery light wire
Hello,
I think it's possible that the alternator when charging is still passing voltage through to the ECU via the ignition switch connection you've made somewhere. That wire has resistors and an led between the light and the alternator connection, so I reckon connecting it straight to the ignition is causing it to pass current back again to ECU, and hence opening the shutoff solenoid and the quantity adjuster. I'd suggest putting a 12v led and resistor in line with the connection to the alternator and see if it stops the ECU continuing to get power. The 109 relay is quite important for the power to the ECU - I'm guessing that's all in place too?
Been following your build thread - good work! Hope you get it up and running soon.

Good news - glad the diode worked and you got to go out for a cycle...
There's a thread on here about alternative clusters which is quite good - I use the original one with all sorts of extra switches for cruise etc and it looks a bit like a dog's dinner but it all works at least! If I worried about what things looked like I wouldn't leave the house.
Good luck getting it all sorted!
