Post by shrekwoody »

HI PEOPLE

im having problems with cooling system after engine swap

new waterpump etc, rad wont get hot :run

ran it up for good 20mins plus, temp just a tad over half, all engine pipes hot but rad stone cold!!??

could it be blocked radiator?????

have had rad warm previous before engine change but reason for upgrade was cracked head so has prob overheated before

im begining to think rad maybe blocked, used bleed valve to release air, little of but wont get warm

rad fan has also never worked and ive changed switch, althou connect a separate live feed to fan and works fine

Any advice and tips please people?? and also who best to buy new radiator? brickwerks £140????

sounds like you got air in the system that needs bleeding properly.

Like-for-like swap, or a conversion?

Any rad on any car can get blocked if the cooling system's not been looked after properly.

As with any 20+ year old vehicle crud and poor maint can cause issues..
Worse still if and "rad weld" has been used in the system.. the only one that seems to work and not cause issues is "K-Seal"...

felt the pipes underneath?? if one is getting warm than it must be flowing.. but 20 mins at idle might not generate enough heat there is 17L of coolant in the system and it doesnt need much of the cold stuff coming back to keep the engine cool..
