new wild camping site - Climping

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

did my first couple of days wild camping (on my own - absouloutley loved it and found a gem of a location

Suddenly the whole thing of owning a camper made 100% sense :ok

http://www.sussexbythesea.com/great-day ... on-p445171" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

located in an isolated car park between the beach and the sand dunes of a nature reserve, with adjacent cafe / modern/clean toilets u can use 24 hrs and only a half hour from brighton

google west bay nature reserve to find it.

its where the river arun meets the sea nr littlehampton.

I assume you all familiar with radar keys ?? ??? :?:

Yes Jed

- there are the height barriers jed, but my devon skylight sneaks under them without a worry

Perhaps you should forego the macho image of a 4XW with its chunky and tall slippers (tyres) and accept the lower ride height of a carrige more suited to you station in life

Suggest a westy in hearing aid brown
?

Matt - brighton

ps - no patrols to move me on and was there thurs-sun last week without bother

Hi

AM camping there again on saturday evening so willconfirm barrier height next week

The facilities are behind the visitors center but only the mens and womens are locked overnight

as regards a radar key for the acessable loos - you can get a key from your local council ot google radar...

or a wide conventional flat screwdriver will avail you of the facilities here and uk wide (leave them as you find them) as the radar l;ocks can be opened in case of emergency

happy camping !

Matt - You might have company Saturday!

I was thinking about coming down there after your recommendation.

Wife is not so keen on Wild Camping but I'd rather be somewhere lovely and wild rather than parked between two white plastic caravan and a view of the "club house".

matt, I must have found the wrong place!

We went down the road with the Black Horse in it, past Baliffscourt Hotel and there is a car park, cafe and toilets at the bottom. The car park is £1 an hour (height barrier is 2.25m) and you collect a ticket on the way in.

Car park is locked at 8pm and there are "no camping" signs. Although I guess you could park on the road outside the car park after 8pm (in fact lots of people were packing there all day despite the parking restrictions).

As it happens we were treating ourself to a meal out as it was a wet day and so we spoke to the landlord at the Black Horse and parked in his car park overnight.

It's a nice spot though. Sunday we walked the dog down to Middleton.

Was that you in the car park with a pale Blue van and white roof?

Yes a good trip and although not the same place was an ideal spot to wild camp. Love waking up next to the sea, kicking myself that I didn't go straight in for a swim!

Maybe next weekend - Southwold in Suffolk. Another chance for a bit of wild camping, great beer and a dash to the sea in the morning :ok
