no 1st or reverse gear selection

Post by Ad&Kez »

Hi all, I have read through a few of the posts regarding the gears but am struggling to find a solution. I was happily driving about, when without warning the gear selector would not let me select 1st or reverse gears, it will not travel over to the the left at all. I can select all other gears with ease and having removed the shroud covering the linkage i can place it in 1st and reverse. Many thanks for any suggestions :ok Adam

Have you looked in the box under the gear stick?

you will need to drop your spare tyre, and look upwards, where the gearstick comes through the floor...is there anything stopping the gear stick completing the full travel? If so, and you can get 1st and reverse at the gear box, you will have to check the linkage along the box to find out what has come loose, fallen off etc etc

Hope that helps a little

Thanks for your thoughts, the cover has been removed and the bellows cover looks pretty ropey but intact and the mechanism needed a lube but it still doesnt want to travel over once the cover is fitted, i guess the problem must be along the linkage to the gear box.....

once "the wife" came home and was able to move the gear stick while i overlooked what was occuring underneath it transpired that the "piston" at the bottom of the gear selector was not moving freely so removed the assembly, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Now all is good in the world....... :D :D thanks to ermie571 for taking the time out to assist, off to camperjam in the morning so a big relief .....
