The hole in the shock won't be a fail as its only a cover, but a leak would be a fail, in uk anyway.

The leak aint too bad, but as you can seen in one of my photos, it is evident that there is a leak. I may just try and clean up the area prior to the test, and hope for the best. On the look out for a complete suspension package now, oh and stainless exhaust. It's right what they say, the spending never stops :run

Oh, and my lovely wife went to the post office today to pick up my L Shaped Dubflecta wind deflectos :) Not fitted them yet, but weather permitting I will tomorrow, but will watch Jeds video guide on fitting again just to make sure I fit them correctly :ok

Fitted, and fit the clips too. Noticed the windows are quite tight now to open and close though. Still, happy, and sure they will ease in time.

Continued work today on the underside, trying to remove the bashplate, one bloody bolt caused me some grief..

Image

Had to remove the washer bottle, and lost all my screen wash over my face lol. Managed to finally get that bolt out, and then straightened the damage to the mount I caused, then sanded the bashplate down, and painted it in protective paint..

Image

The wire brushed all areas needing protecting due to factory underseal worn down, and then painted with protective rubber, stone chip and rust protective paint.

I have put my bash plate in the boot for now, as I want to use new fixings when I put it back, so off to our local Biltema store which sells pretty much everything car repair wise. Hopefully I can find the right clips/bolts. Also will pick up some P Clips to reattach the handbrake cables to the swing arms.

P Clips obtained, so too more protective paint, and under seal so I can do the floor, prop, and engine guard.

Need to go to VW to pick up six of these..

Image

Anyone know the part number for these?

Your bashplate fixing has had a bolt put in it, mine all seem to have a self tapper design to them. Wonder what is correct? the ones in the link above seem to use bolts

I believe that the ones I removed are OEM, as underneath was like new, and untouched.

Having said that though, I cannot find any mention on ETKA of them. Max & Caddy mentioned in my bashplate thread that he got some of the clips, with threaded part front VW about 4 months ago, so all I need now is the part number for that part, and I can buy new replacements.

I know it would be simple to just use the normal clips, and self tappers, but given the heavy weight of the bash plate, I would rather use the threaded part that I have removed.

You really are putting me to shame with all this rust protection. I need to do all that too, but I am using the excuse that I need to do all the welding first; if I wait long enough I wont have to do either :rofl

Luckily no welding needed for me, Flint is pretty solid being a late Syncro. Good luck with yours. I would recommend if you are going to underseal yours, Shutz it as painting under seal on as I have, not only takes an age, its bloody messy work lol.

Well, I finally found a place that sell those lugnuts I needed.

€21.90 for a pack of 20 Galvanized

Image

Then went elsewhere, and picked up the following Stainless stuff..

10 M6 Short bolts
10 M6 Washers
3 M8 Short bolts
3 M8 Washers

Only 61 cents for those. Motonet here in Finland has to be one of the most expensive motor stores around, would normally avoid, but needs must I guess.

Its a Finnish brand of rubber paint, which has rust prevention properties in it.

Did some more work today, so will let the photos do the talking :)

Fitted my new P Clips to retain the handbrake cables...

Completed the one side of the under floor undersealing...

Then painted the subframe..

Will finish the other side of the floor tomorrow whilst at our summer house. If the weather is like it has been today, then I may just go for a swim in the lake too :)
