Smoking injector on JX

Hi to all, could any one throw a bit of light on this wee matter? I had a smoking injector with fuel bubbling around its base, on someones kind advice on here i first replaced the fuel pipes between the injectors using brickwerks pipes, the fuel no longer bubbles as theres is now none there but the injector still smokes when engine is upto temp.

The old fuel(return?) pipes between the injectors must have been goosed, but now thats sorted i still have a smokming injector . I have bought new flame traps from brickwerks to replace any old ones, but heres the main question, if i take out the problem injector replace the flame trap and put the injector back in to find it still smokes(thus indicating a knackered injector and not flame trap problem) can i still re use the new flame trap? Or does it have to be a brand spanker every single time you take an injector out? I hope that makes sense! The engine idles terribly at the mo could a dodgy flame trap cause this? Many thanks for any advice that could be given.

Hi mate, no you cant re use the flame trap (while you can but its not recommended) if it was me id get the copper seat washer aswell, take the injector out, remove the flame trap (making sure you fit it the correct way, you want it concave once sat in place) and replace the injector copper washer, torque up injector and replace pipes, the easist way to replace the flame washer is have a long thin screwdriver, slide the flame trap up the screwdriver and hold there, place the screwdriver down the injector hole and let the washer fall into place, easy to do mate wont take you that long

Thanks Phil for a very informative reply i'll do that and see what happens, i will check to see if brickwerks stock them, or maybe from the VW place here in Finland i imagine the copper seals wont be so expensive so maybe best to save on time and postage. Have you had similar problems in the past?

Hi Rob, over the last 20 yrs ive replaced many injector washers, very common job at the garage where i leant my trade, but as with most old school jobs its few and far between nowadays very enjoyable job tho to change the washers

Any problems pm me mate
