1.9dg fuel pump advice

Post by JamesT25 »

Hello all,

as always when I am on here i need some advice...

I have a 1986 1.9dg watercooled which has been locked away for the winter and after a small disaster where fuel was leaking from the fuel sender unit this now has been fixed there is a new issue

the fuel pump is basically spraying fuel on to the top of the engine it was replaced a few years ago with one of these but it was gold coloured Image

I was wondering what my best options would be.

1. replace again with the same unit
2. buy a kit to repair the seals etc on the original VW fuel pump like this Image
3. buy a 12v fuel pump and cap off the mechanical pump like this Image

any advice or experience anyone has had would be greatly appreciated

What's the problem with the one that was fitted a few years ago? Same issue? (Spraying fuel everywhere?)

And if you have not already done so, buy some new fuel piping and fuel pipe clips (note = NOT jubilee clips) from there too

As above - I bought a GSF one and it broke again shortly after.

The easiest solution is to buy one form Brickwerks, bolt it on and you're off. No messing aorund refurbishing or fitting an electric one.

Worth measuring the pushrod whilst the fuel pump is off - any shorter than 100 mm replace it.

Cheers,

Alex
