yes you can. depends how handy you are with the spanners.
8V agg 2e is more common because much better torque lower down in the rev range so its more usable. wiring would be straight forward

Yes of course, you can fit a 3.9L V8 rover engine in if you want... question is how much time/money have you got?

I was told the golf gti engine is fairly simple once you have the bits. I am quite handy and have back up if required and I'm selling my 1.9l petrol engine to fund the new engine, my engine is perfect so I should get good money for it.

you will need a diesel bell housing and sump and a load of other jx stuff. Just happens I have the lot from a scrapped van that had the same conversion

After seeking some advice on it I think I will be going bigger on the engine front, maybe a VR6 or something. Still not sure but by all accounts it won't take long for the weight of a Doka to kill off a mk2 gti engine.

Where did this info orignate from? First hand experience from someone who has done it? Compare torque made and where of an 8V against a DG/DJ/JX/AAZ etc and i think you will find you have been very badly advised.

Plenty of us have done 8v conversions with no issues. Ive been involved with 4 now with no issues :? Look on the yard, plenty of peeps have done it with no issues. As Dan has said , 8V is best to go for.

My first was in a Doka and it flew with sensible MPG. For performance,MPG,install price,Parts you wont beat an 8v.

If you are asking about fitting a 16v might i suggest you start asking same Qs about a VR6. Anything is possible but how deep are your pockets? :ok
