I've bought the repacement struts from Brickwerks. On my van the openings of the ball end and the body end face the same way. On the replacement the ends are at right angles to each other. I can't turn them to match.
Am I being thick, missed a trick, bought the wrong part or have an odd tailgate. I do remember when fitting a new rear window seal it was an almighty job getting the window back in.
Any help most welcome,
Thanks Richard

Re: Tialgate strut fitting....
My 83 van ball ends are at right angles.
Can't see why your 81 van would be different
Yuo can see number 3 part with the ball end is at a right angle to the door

Re: Tialgate strut fitting....
Thanks very much for that.
The problem was with the strut itself; from your attached diagram the flange at 11 and the ball joint at 3 face the same way. On the strut they are at right angle to each other making it impossible to fit. Prospective son in law (clever lad!) took screwdriver and pliers to either end and turned the ball joint into correct position. Now fitted.
Apologies for delay in acknowledging, been working a shift pattern.
