JX Turbo refurb questions and or possible alternatives

Post by mrnickmuss »

I bought my LHD Doka last year and I am loving it.... Although finances are very tight at the moment I have done a few 'must do' jobs and a friend this weekend helped me fit standard springs. I must admit not feeling every bump has been a relief!
I spent a bit of time checking over the vehicle and now have a new list of jobs to do Arghh! one of the most urgent is that the Turbo is oily and there is a fair bit of play. I guessed it was as the van is a bit smokey at times.
I have spent a fair bit of time researching on the internet and the best price I can see is a refurbed for not much under £400. As much as I would like to be able to shell out for one I won't have to think about again, I really cannot shell out for this at the moment.
I have looked to see what alternatives there are but I havent had much like.
My questions are if I want to get my one refurbed is this an option? Is there anyone who has done this sucessfully?
If so did you do it yourself or get someone to do it?
My second question: is there an alternative Turbo which is cheaper which I could fit? I have seen AAZ turbos which are a far bit cheaper....
Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated. :)
PS I have been offered another JX turbo which needs refurbing which could save me some hassle without having to take my van off the road for any time.
