Back box/silencer removal
I'm trying to get my exhaust silencer off my van (1.9 DG), I've taken the straps off and I'm guessing it slides off to the tailpipe side but I can't get it out - can someone help me and give me a clue how to get it out?!

Re: Back box/silencer removal
How have you done so far? Have all bolts/nuts come undone ok? Is your end pipe the push on type, or three bold type?

Re: Back box/silencer removal
The silencer is loose - away from the side pipe (Well, the side pipe is off so the silencer isn't attached to anything. The tailpipe is also off and not attached to the silencer. So it's just sitting on the silencer supports with the top straps removed. The tailpipe is a 3 stud type

If the straps/supports are not there holding the silencer, then it only has to be corrosion in your way, so if you have a rubber mallet, then maybe twpping around the jointed area will free things up for you.

Re: Back box/silencer removal
I can actually move it - so it's free from the hanger but I can't figure out how to actually get it out - when I try and slide it to the side it just gets stuck - is it just a matter of hitting and prising it out?

Re: Back box/silencer removal
Some exhausts are a bit tight you will have to slacken the support bracket bolts off so they drop down a bit.
