Re: MOT failure - Outer sill welding

Post by 1_eyed_jim »

So here is a picture of the tyre that needs replacing. From what i've read around the internet looking at the date this tyre was made in 1986 which is the same year as the van was made!! and so is the other rear and spare. These will all be replaced with new.

Here are more pictures of the outer sill that needs welding.

Nearside:

Offside:

It looks like a akward weld as it will need a plate under the jacking points. Not sure how to do this. Remove the jacking points?? It also looks like this has been patched before on the Offside :? so is this going to be a right can of worms in the winter?

Looks like its been patched on the front nearside at somepoint too:

this is under mechanical . do you want to maqybe start a thread bodywork that relates to thius aspect of the job
front jp is here https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... t&start=45" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; sorry the picks arent the best in the world. further on is the rear jp and arm moun ting, with regards to your rerar arm mount, well the actual mount may well be ok once blasted free of all the carp. it would help you if it is as then you wont have to go to the trouble of resetting it for the correct geometry, the sill part of it is not really a concern, its the 3mm plate that forms the main support and the associated steel that matters i think its also in the same posting or mayber anothe i done , memory fails at this time of night.......

Good idea, or Transporter could ask one of the very helpful moderators if they'd move this thread over to the bodywork section on here. Looks like there's plenty of work ahead for someone :D
