1.9 dg case to 2.1

Post by weimarbus »

Ok, dumb question for this evening, as the head studs are the same between 1.9 and 2.1 I asume that the top end deck height is in the cylinder head and the liners are longer to accomodate the extra stroke if this is the case are there any differences in the crankcase between a 1.9 and a 2.1 or are there any clearance issues putting the longer stroke crank in a dg engine case? :ok

Crank and pistons are different, heads, barrels and (IIRC) conrods are the same, different (non-reusable conrod bolts)

As Ian says, crank and pistons different..
But also 2.1 crank wont go in an early case without clearancing.. and if useing 1.9 barrels you HAVE to make sure there are no wear ridges or it will break opiston rings...

Then you have the different thermostat housing, water pump, oil cooler & associated pipework and mounting spigot. Technically you could include the exhaust if the 1.9 is an early, the flywheel and clutch could be the smaller, early one not the 228mm late 1.9/2.1 type.

Thanks for the replies, it's the case I was concerned about. I have a DG engine which I rebuilt about 5 years ago and I know the head studs are in good shape, have just got a 2.1 MV engine to rebuild and wanted peace of mind that if the head studs were bad I could use the DG case. Time to cross pinkies and open the can of worms then :ok
