slight knocking from the engine
In one of the old posts ( which I now cannot find) someone mentioned that they were getting a slight knock and was told that if the van ( mine's a water cooled DG) is standing for a while the push rod tubes ( their words not mine) stick a little "but after a good run they clear" is this true Iv'e had that happen to me. The slight knocking seemed to come from the head end of one of the cylinders.

Re: slight knocking from the engine
The hydraulic valve lifters (that push the push rods) can drain down of oil if the engine hasn't been run for a while.
When you start it you then get a knocking till the lifters "pump up" again.
Fairly common, can take a few seconds or 10 mins depending on how badly they have drained down.
