Not sure if this should be in General, Technical, or Camping...so apologies to mods if I've got it wrong!
Anyway, after watching several roof racks on eBay I found a chap in Derby who makes them and the price was very fair...less than £100. Looks like a good job as well - he can certainly weld better than me (then again my dog can weld better than me!). Heatshrink rubber over the gutter clamps as well and good grade metal. Mine is left unfinished as I can't decide if i want to paint it or let it get a little bit of surface rust to age it, will oil or varnish the wood though to protect it. A few pics - sorry for quality/orientation, just taken on phone in failing light (outer part of clamp not fitted in the pics before someone points out it'll fall off!).
Anyway if anyone else wants one (and he can do them for Splits and Bays and in other sizes if you've got special requirements) I'm happy to pass on his details via a PM. He also said he'd be able to give a bit of discount for a group buy if there's enough interest.

Perhaps I need to go around and put a '2' after the name!!! To be fair I wanted to call her Mae West ("I used to be Snow White but then I drifted") but the kids decided Snowdrop so that was that!
With camping season upon us, you might be needing extra space for umbrella’s, wellies, raincoats or even a dinghy. If you drive a T25 then look no further than these great rooftop storage solutions.
Now available are these rather lovely wood slat racks for the third generation Type 2, a pleasant change to boring black roof bars, which lack a little style to say the least. Manufactured for us in 2, 3 and 4 bow sizes and made from polished stainless and treated hardwood they are built to last. Speaking of which.. you will need to build it, they come supplied as a flat pack (sending a built 4 bow roof rack is a little tricky!) don’t panic though, it’s pretty simple and instructions are supplied.

I shouldn't worry about the originality of van names in this club. There are around 100 or so vans called "Colin"
My 10 year old son named our Viking conversion "Thorgills" after the Viking invader who's nickname was Skarthi and named our home town Skarthi's-borg which became Scarborough! I bet there's not hundreds with that name!!
As an aside, his brother Kormack had the nickname Flam, and started Flam's-borg a little further down the coast!
And they say you don't learn anything on the Internet!
