Re: god dam westy fridge
Yeah...the god dam auto igniter unit is probably up the swanny......
Very common...now it works...oh no it doesn't, bugger it works again. About £55.00 if you can get one (steve) at Gasure usually has them in stock although I understand he's just sold the last one (he is cheaper about £36)
I must admit, I've converted mine with a manual piezo push button.
This sort of thing but be careful to fit it where it doesn't interfere with the door closing.

Re: god dam westy fridge
This could also be an option.....push button but the spark is generated by a battery.

Re: god dam westy fridge
Problem with these solutions are they won't be self ignighting. Is it worth the saving risking a serious accident?

What accident - do you understand the purpose of the thermocouple? You don't need a self-igniter, some are manufactured without.

Re: god dam westy fridge
Yup...soon as they flame out the thermo coupling stops gas to the burner.
The auto igniter won't re-ignite on it's own despite clicking it's head off. The thermo coupling overide button has to be pushed in to manually supply gas to the burner until which time the burner relights and the thermo coupling is re-heated. The heat on the coupling keeps the supply flowing: self sustained.....

I generally don't recommend things that are dangerous, if I don't know I don't comment, best that way. Thats not to say I don't make mistakes, I am human afterall.

Didn't mean to offend, but when I did my Electrolux fridge I looked into a cheaper solution than a new spark generator and tested a manual solution and the cupling stayed open on residual heat long enough to register on tester. So that is why I made my comment above. Sorry if you don't agree or maybe there is something different with my fridge but when mine goes out it re ignites straight away max 2clicks and it's up and running again. £34.00 well spent

Re: god dam westy fridge
Nope...I agree, the best solution is to replace the automatic igniter unit, I was just offering alternatives as the original units are expensive and fairly difficult to get hold of now, especially at £34.00.

Exactly, good advice above. Having worked with gas supplied equipment in the past, always check everything in relation to your fuel supply. If you are not familiar to how your appliances work, or how they get their gas/electric/power source, then at the end of the day, you should not be operating the equipment that you are so called in charge of. period.
Sorry if the above sounds to the point, but it is relevant.
