Hello,

Darn, you just beat me to it... :rofl :rofl :rofl

Seen this happen before with easyouts and drillbits broken off... :(

Punch and drill round the broken bit, and (as you found), the tapped hole is either recoverable or helicoidable :)

Well done!

Cordialement,

:ok

Just out of curiosity, did you send the van or just the head ?
Also, is the a water cooled flat 4 ?
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Did it all while in the van. Number 3 has a bit of room around it to get the drill in when up on the ramp. Local engineering place wanted to take the engine out and heads off, but not necessary in the end thankfully as they wanted about £500 to do it!
Get the impression they didn't really want the job?

Glad you got it sorted Skippymoss, i have the same problem. I'm trying to get someone local to sort for me, hopefully they can do it-have been quoted £750 on worse case scenario, that includes stainless steel system, seems a good price-what do you think?

crikey ... you lot must have money to burn...
for the sake of undoing eight mounting bolts a few pipes and three connectors then dropping the motor on a skateboard.. you could save a fortune.

I'm glad I don't have to line other folks pockets to keep my van sweet. :D

still if you can't, then that still seems a bit steep to me,

Blimey, really?? You think that's too much?
That's worse case scenario, if all studs need drilling out, not just the one that's broken at the mo.
The exhaust is £450, so a fair bit of labour though

Cheap exhaust at £450 for stainless, where's it from?
Brickwerks is £650 before you start but gets a lot of love on here. (consequently its the one I went for)
£300 for fitting is 10 hours work at £30 an hour or 12 at £25 an hour. That would make it rather a long job, assuming it's a garage with ramps and all the kit handy.
Has anyone ever had all the studs snap?
I used to have a few quid to spare before I got this van Kev!

I'm not sure where the exhaust is coming from, it's being done by Bugs n Buses in Pompey, they've a good reputation around here, so am assuming it'll be ok, fingers crossed
