Broken Steering Lock - How to fix?

Post by Mickyfin »

If you have read my thread about my Syncro getting nicked, then you will of learned that my steering lock is busted. The garage said they fixed it with new parts, but I can still move the steering wheel when its supposed to lock. With the key out the barrel, I can turn the wheel, although it feels like somehting is restricting movement.

To fix the steering lock, is it a case of steering wheel off, and replacing the whole ignition barrel casing?

Any hints, tips, and/or advice on repairing my steering lock would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks as always :)

yes that's what is required but it is possible that the column is damaged so new lock won't work, that maybe what's occurred if they have replaced the barrel housing - did you end up with a different key for the ignition ?

to have the same lock they would have needed to recover barrel from the old housing by drilling the housing body and removing the cast in securing pins and swap the barrel to the new housing - part number for lock housing is 155 905 851

take care mickey,I have one in my possesion that a well known recovery company attended, they removed the lock and jammed the steering lock part wuith a gash nut and a bit of stick and the owner then drobve it round for a few weeks oblivious to the potential for the lock to engage when on the road

Why would you want a steering lock anyway?

..as the last one lasted 5 seconds.. why not just use a different way

The disklok I have purchased will protect the new steering lock from now on.
