VW 1.9D 1Y Crankcase breather hose

Post by Chopper »

Hello all
Does anyone know where I can get a new 1Y crankcase breather hose?
The plastic one that runs from the rocker cover to the engine block.
I've searched and searched in vain!

You're right of course but my local VW dealership can be such a pain in the hole to deal with!!
As it happens it looks like they've come up trumps this time though.

You are using a commerical dealer?

My local parts dealer is a top bloke and I get trade. Build up a relationship and they will go out of there way for you. I have ordered quite a bit from them down the years though

is that the pipe that goes from the block into the round plastic valve thingy on the rocker cover?

i'm doing a 1y conversion at the moment and the setup i am running with is to blank the port off at the block, scrap the round plastic valve and simply have a pipe going from inlet manifold back into rubber grommet on rocker cover. so perhaps might be no need for that pipe at all.

best way to get any sense out the dealers parts gimp is to know what you want...turning up saying i have a van...i need a pipe but not for the van..its a golf engine...i think..what golf? dunno...year? dunno...chassis numbers? erm..dunno..order a part, it wont fit etc...no wonder they are less than helpfull at times, get the part number off the old one and you have done the job for them.

You're dead right!!
If I'm unsure I get em to email the relevant exploded parts diagram to me then there's no question!!

On the breather hose, I didn't know you could blank it like that?!!
I got a replacement hose any ways.

Yup still blanked off ! That is how my donor engine came (ex Caddy) and she did blow all her oil out through the dipstick and I am very sorry to anyone who was behind me coming back from Dover. Not the done thing I am sure but I fitted a little helper spring to hold the dipstick in  How did the caddy let its crankcase breath ? The only thing different was the dipstick so helper spring it is then ! Also she is not blowing oil out of any orifice. 4000miles with the spring and no probs. Having said all that, if a breather pipe came along I think I would fit it.
