oil level/ dipstick marks

Post by peel567 »

Dead easy one. But I'm new to this so hope you won't begrudge such a simple question. I have searched for an answer in the archive but to no avail. I suspect everyone knows the answer so it's never needed to be posted before.

anyway

Oil dipstick: where should the oil level be? There are 2 blisters about a centimetre apart. I presume the oil should be towards the top of these. Just checking because a cm or 2 further proximally there is a z-kink in the dipstick, and I wondered if the correct level is in fact between the 2 kinks.

Model is T3 1991 1.6TD

thanks all, dave

oil level should be between the two "blisters" lower one is 4 Litres upper is 5 Litres. 4.5L is the refill amount on an oil change. Dont Aim for the higher one as levels can change with van level and how recently the engine has been running. It may take a while for any oil you put in to register on the dipstick so if its at the lower level guestimate 0.5 litres and give it a good minute to settle. If you over fill it can burn oil and force seals.
