Rear spring bottom plates

Hi Guys,
Bus has just failed the MOT on rusted plates and the bottom of the rear springs, the guy has quoted me £270 for 6 hours to fix this that is including fitting a rear CV boot as well.
Guys says he has to make up the spring plates:
My questions are
Is this a reasonable price in your opinion?
Can these plates be bought? If so where?
This will save a few quid as the guy has included making up the plates in his price........

I've just had a quick look on there but can't see them, I'm looking for the plate that sits on the rear wishbone..... can't see it on the site

Honestly.....99.9% sure Simon has them. Some things are not listed so give them a ring tomorrow.

they were tho flat and didnt have the indent for the end of the spring , pig tale tho.

i got over this by using an upper cussion gasket the one thats fitted at the top of the rear spring ,yes 7mm lift on the rear suspension , but on most campers you cant notice!

thats a big quote , but i suppose thats garages these days!

you just need a couple of circles cut , from 2 /3mm gauge steel, a piece of tube that fits inside the spring coul , and a welder!

Agree wth Billy. T'aint rocket science and any good welder could sort them for you. On mine, it wasn't just the spring mount but some of the metal beneath so find someone who could weld them up for you. Respect to Brickwerks but the mounts are as Billy says, two flat circles with a lump of tube welded to them.

Brickwerks definetly did them as I have a pair here I brought for mine about 8 weeks ago. But strangely I cant find them on their website either. Not even by going to my order history, it doesnt seem to list the part now, Give them a ring, they called them "trailing arm repair section-T3" thats what is on my receipt.

welding it is chaps you are quite right, off to find a man who can, as I am in this instance a man who definitely cannot

Essentially the plate (and they don't HAVE to be circular) needs to be a heavy gauge steel and a locator for the spring to sit on. On that basis, all kinds of things spring to mind and I'm sure your welder will be able to think along similar lines. Providing its done well (ie proper seam welds and cleaned up and painted), it should pass an MOT no prob, Just make it a tidy job.

Couple of approaches been posted on 80/90 in recent months.

Fairywinds plate is a good one - cut to fit and arguably much stronger than stock. Best to get the arms grit blasted if you can (around a tenner) just so you get to the root of any corrosion. The existing plates can be removed with a cold chisel and lump hammer, finishing (if required) with a small angle grinder to remove any remaining spot welds.
