Lowering kit - too raked?

Post by maximillion »

Hi, Just lowered my bus with a SSP 45-50mm drop kit from VW Heritage, and shortened GMAX gas shocks, its a 81 Aircooled.

The ride is great but its a lot lower at the front than the rear, a good inch or so i would say... does this sound or look right? My drive slopes towards the front of the van so in this pic it looks quite flat, but look at the arches. Its quite a raked stance that i wasn't expecting? Going to call VW Heritage in the morning to check they have sent the right springs, but thought a second opinion wouldn't go a miss...

Thanks!

the reason it sits high at the back is more lowering kits are designed for the later front suspensions and later vans which have heavier water cooled engines, i may be wrong but i am shure the only kit for early vans ie up to 1983 is the h/r kit these sit perfectly level

Thanks

Spoke to Heritage and sent them a pic and they think its fine/normal? I cant really complain as it drives so well now, its just weather it look right?

But i would of thought that on 45mm drop the front would be ok and the back would be higher though? As i reckon the front is down a good 60-65mm. Is the early front suspension set up much different?

mine sits higher than that with a 45mm drop but my interior is minimal and i run heavy duty gas shocks with spring assisters what make lift it a few mm , heritage would say they are fine but if your not happy , i would send them back and replace with a better quality kit , how long have they been fitted as some take time to settle and some springs sag after a few miles,
the other option what alot of people do is miss match your springs ie try some different make springs on the front or back to you get it to sit either level or what you are happy with

Got the same set up as you and mine looks exactly the same. Had the springs on the van for 6 months and its has dropped a touch.
