black box in engine bay electrics melted. HELP
Can any one help why would this have happened 1984 waterboxxer still runs not very well from cold HELP

Dependent upon model, it could be one of two units.
Idle control module,
or
Ignition amplifier module.
If either of these gets damaged to the point that stuff gets melted, then the you are lucky that the van is running at all.
To be properly sure, it would be good if you could post up a picture of the "black box" and it's location in the engine bay.

Or could be the electrical box on thefront left side of the engine bay, send us a pic, crystal balls being used in the mechanical section tonight, and we're all out of psychics.

Turned out to be charging loom to alternator and starter motor ,now needs waterpump as slight leak from the bottom,more G12 coolant me thinks,many thanks to Brickwerks, GSF, John at Kent Volkswagen and Dave at Mega bug
