Oil Pressure Buzzer

Post by jpee »

Hi All

2 things.

1. Oil pressure buzzer going continuously. Sometimes starts when engine fired, sometimes a few minutes later. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with revs. Gets worse when I turn on lights and occilates with indicators and is even affected by deoression of the clutch. This leads me to think electrical fault somewhere. Engine runs sweetly. Oil level correct and correct oil used. Anyone enlighten me please.

2. Where the hell is the pressure switch. I can find the lower one no probs.

Cheers
Never sure where I'm going till i get there.

There are 2 pressure switches, one next to the oil pump and the other between the pushrod tubes on the nearside bank.

I agree it sounds like you have an earthing issue. The buzzer should only come on at revs greater than 2,200 NOT on starting up with revs below that figure, that and the fact other electrical components affect it leads me to that conclusion.

Cheers Ian. Thats what I reckoned. Just finding the earthing problem now. Would disconnecting the buzzer oil pressure switch stop the buzzing?
and would that be done by taking lead off switch or does it have to be done at dassh pod?

Taking the terminal off the switch near the oil pump ensures the B.o.D stays ON  Our fan belt shredded on the way to Cornwall and in doing so whipped off that cable   VERY handy it did though before further unpleasantries occurred

My money would be on a fault at the dash pod multiplug or the ribbon cable itself.

I'll offer my standard advice. Try cleaning the earth crowns by the fuse box. It fixed a multitude of gremlins I was having with my radio, dash pod warning lights etc. wished I done it before as until the radio started playing up, I'd just been cleaning the ribbon connector and wiggling it to get things to work. Don't get me wrong, the ribbon connector is just as likely to cause an issue so clean both, just take it easy on the ribbon as they're quite delicate.

Sorry just one last one. I take it if the crown behind fuse box is just an earthing crown (and i believe all the wires are brown) does it matter what wire goes where or will i have to mark where on crown wires get replaced?

Cheers again

They all go to earth, so it shouldn't make any difference.

Update. Cleaned earth crown, no difference, took dash pod off buzzer stopped, obviously electrical but couldn't see anywhere it was shorting. Pod back on buzzer still off :)

As I said it can often be the multiplug connector that gets it buzzing.

Just a thought, check the gearbox nose to chassis earth strap and engine earths as well. Just thinking they might be involved if the clutch was making a difference.
