Devon roof (plastic strip??) replacement

Post by AllenTheHat »

Hi Guys, I am currently in the process of replacing the carpet lining on my side elevating roof, but before I strip it down and take the canvas off I have a little sticking point. The screws are pretty rusty and proving impossible to remove, so I have decided I might grind them off.

This means I may need to source a new replacement plastic strip which these screws hold in place. For example.....its the plastic trim which holds the canvas in place which is then screwed to the fibreglass roof.

I cant seem to find any trace of what it is called or who may do it. Any of you guys who have replaced your canvas had this problem?? Did you find a substitute? If I had some spare, I would possibly be pulling my hair out.

Could you not drill them out, might save the cost and time of a new one?

[Sorry, I dont know where a new once could be purchased but no doubt somebody else will be able to tell you] :ok

I considered drilling them out, but its too tight to get on on the side where the hinges are......just cant get the drill in. I have already made a hole in the canvas  where I was being a bit cack handed with it.

take the bottom ones out and take the roof off that way as you can lay the roof down and get to them easier. They are a pain in the a*** to get out. I got a set of side cutters on the ones that would not unscrew, which was most of em, as you can squeeze em on the edges and then unscrew them.
As for the strip, I just got some beading the same size from a window fitter. I also got some butyl double sided tape and put that down first and stuck the canvas to is and then the strip.

Just for info, I have found an item called cloaking fillet. As billybigspud suggested about trim used for pvc windows I looked into what it is called and stumbled across it.

Google 'cloaking fillett 20mm' and several options appear.
