T25 bed variations on rock and roll

Hi ,
I bought a rock and roll bed assembled it and it is , too high when flat.

I don't want to build a useless box so the bed is same height. Also
It takes up a load of floor space
So I am losing the r&r and gonna invent something simple.
Does anyone have any examples of alternatives ?
Which s suited to t25 etc.
Ps , anyone interested in buyin a 3/4 steel r&r bed currently assembled ?

I have a fold out wooden affair that came out of a Autohomes Kamper... but still requires raised box over engine...mine has 2 drawers that slide out when tailgate is open so space isnt wasted, just a pain to get into engine

Interesting thread - does this mean that any r'n'r bed fitted to a T25 is going to need a base made up, so it sits properly over the engine cover, or is it just the bed that lonstie has bought? Good place to fit some storage drawers, but not much use if you want to get into the engine bay. Anyone else had this problem?

My interior is a Bilbo's, and the bed doesn't have a raised platform over the engine bay. Regardless though, i don't think having a platform built up over the engine bay is really a waste of space, in fact it creates space as most people incorporate some kind of storage within it. Whatever bed you have, the bed foam will be going over the engine bay area anyway...
On the other hand, I was suprised myself when i was looking for a rock and roll bed that there was nothing specific for a T25. I was suprised no one had designed a T25 specific bed that didn't require a platform, or at least had the option of being supplied with one. The Bluebird bed i initially purchased was a real pain in the a*** to fit as they are designed around a T2 with the higher bulk head, but once installed seemed good enough. I would have thought some bright soul could do ok if they were able to manufacture a T25 specific bed..

couldn't you just put thicker foam over the engine to bring it up to the same level?

Sounds like you have the Reimo style hinges. Westfalia hinges allow the bed to be level with the rear deck.

My bed is i think a westfalia style is a full seat and opens flat to the engine lid/compartment and only takes up a bit more room of floor area in van ! but you do have a rear cushin which lives there and forms part of the bed , storage under the seat ! dont want one of those rear storage they lift up to get at the engine but still restricts you a bit anyway ! i just remove cushin lift lid off total access

Yes i am. What make is it? I've been looking at the bluebird customs one for my t25 and am happy for the extra height.

I want to replace my current R&R bed with a metal framed one, so would be happy to swap/PX my set of hinges which do go flat over the engine.

Quite a few aftermarket beds are designed primarily for gay windows that have a higher engine load bay

It's not hard to make a box and can be handy for storage. It's better than putting bed foam on the uneven engine load bay too

The Devon Bluebird RnR bed has a plastic-coated steel frame and requires a platform (or other structure) about 4" high above the engine bay, I use this as a space to store the jack and wheel brace, a flat tool set, spare hoses and accelerator cable, bulb set and warning triangle.

thats the most usefull space in the van, as Ian has said I also carry all my tools and spares under there!

Surely the answer is just to make the bed with shorter legs? It can't be that hard, can it?
On another point, I watched the assembly video on the Volkswares site, which is pretty good, except it doesn't show you how to actually fit the thing.
I still haven't decided which bed is going to be the best for me. I've looked at a couple (online), but like other people have said, they all seem to be a bit of a compromise. I'm off to a spcialist for a bit of work soon, so I'll ask him what he recommends.

Hello. I am considering buying a T25, which looks like an Autohome or Kameo - quite nice in all, but it doesn't have a rock n roll bed. So legally only two people can travel in it. I would want to improve the sleeping arrangement but also want to accommodate a kids' seat for a baby which I guess will need 3 point belts.

Can anyone recommend how and where I can get this all done in one go, and what might it cost, as I think it should be reflected in the negotiated price.

Mine is simple and doesn't have a raised section over the engine bay:
