Danbury side elevatig roof bed query

Post by mellymarz »

Can anyone help please?

I have a vwt25 danbury side elevating poptop roof (full length of the van). When the front panel inside the roof is slid back to the middle section, to make the bed ready for use, there is a gap, approx 7 inches . This is over the middle opening of the roof. In the original manual that came with the van , it says there is meant to be a '10 inch headrest that can be hinged up, which is also a safety barrier to stop children tumbling out'. Does anyone else have this or is there meant to be this gap. Seems strange to me as when you climb up the whole above the front seats there is then another gap a small child could fall through, or partly slip through yourself. Any ideas please? thankyou :)

Hi
I bought a t25 Danbury with the side elevating roof just last week and had exact;ly the same question. The barrier / head rest that you talk about makes sense but there is no sign that one was ever fitted to my van. The two halves of THE bed almost seem to have been cut to size so that the centre is open when cooking. Let me know if you get an answer to this.
Bought our second t25 in June 2012 after 18 months without one. It's good to be home. I am now the proud owner of a mobile project. 1982 Danbury conversion Aircooled and all totally original. Got some work to do!!!

Hi
got an answer from a very helpful club 80/90 member, thankyou!

This is how they are meant to be. When the 2 halves of the bed are in at either end of the roof, the opening in the middle is the size of the actual roof opening. If the front bed was any bigger it would cross over into this space.
When closed up as a complete bed there is a gap,the answer to this is to make your own board and cover it if required, or just climb over it!
I know it makes no sense but i you had this type of roof you would understand! :D Seems it was made more for standing up in when cooking down below or storage.
