gear selection

hello everybody ,im new to all this and last week bought my awesome t25 autosleeper "blossom" love just sitting in there on the drive ,anyway just if i could pick peoples brains its really hard to get into 1st gear you have to push down to get in the same as reverse so keep selecting wrong gear ive started pulling away in 2nd does anyone know if this is a bad problem? i dont want to take to a garage as the pounds signs will appear ,ive got a t25 manual but dont know where to start ,cheers people .

It's likely that it's just a case of adjusting the gear linkage under the van. It's about midway across the linkage. If you get someone to move the gears as you look underneath you can see it.
Loosen the clamp, get someone to move the gear lever to the right and retighten. It's worth marking it before adjusting in case you need to reallign it. It may take a few attempts so a little patience required.

Actually what you have there is a five speed box and a four speed gear selector.proberbly been upgraded at some point...although unless the gearing in the box is better than the previous one then I wouldn't call it an upgrade.
You need a five speed selector to match the box

Or just live with it like I did for 3 and a half years before totally changing the driving experience and getting a better 4 speed box

welcome to the site

First question, do you have a 4 or 5 speed box?

If it is 5 speed is 1st gear a dog leg 1st i.e. left and down.

Advice will change a bit depending on the above, but there is a lot of info on the Wiki (2nd option across up there ^^^) on the linkage including a step by step overhaul procedure which will be pretty much the same on 4 & 5 speed.

It is likely to be associated with linkage but lets start with what sort of box you have and go from there

Ahh then you need to adjust under the rubber gaiter and disregard my other reply

I had this same problem tried lots of fixes but the final fix was undoing the joint clamp ( about half way a long the van underneath ) and holding both ends twisting just about the distance of one spline , but can't remember if it was clock wise or anti but just that small amount completely changed the selection problem , good luck

I had similar symtoms just before my first gear was wrecked. Not trying to scare you but your symtoms are the same as mine.

twisting the gear shaft at the half way joint is dead easy it only needs a tiny amount , good luck in fact it's improved so much my wife has started to drive it now
