DIY Headliner?

Post by Furgonzo »

Hey there,

My van is in need of a new headliner and I am hoping to make something myself. Replacements are not available in Chile and shipping here is outrageous. Anyone ever put together their own from fabric? A pattern or measurements perhaps? I have original HLer in the front third of the van, ripped to shreds, a tempered hardboard piece in the middle and nothing covering the back third, so I have nothing to use as a template. I have only bows for the front bit, so would need to fabricate/invent something for the rest. Any ideas/suggestions would be huge!

You could carefully remove your torn headliner from the front, find some perforated vinyl locally and use the old one as a template.
For the back, you could just carpet it.

im in the process of re doing the cab area of my van. It looks prety simple a series of steel rods with the headliner sown with hoops across for the rods to fit in.As Boatbuilder says you can easily remove the original by gently easing the retaining clips back. You may have to remove the screen and rubber from the front to get this bit back.
Should be sewing mine up this week.
Im sure there is something in the Wiki about making this section along with some drawings.
