MOT fail - CO high & hazards

Post by smashyvan »

Hi all,
Van just failed MOT on high CO & flashers not working on nearside. Engine 1.9DG petrol with Pierburg carb. Never failed emissions before, but van not used much over last year.
TBO I thought mixture was ok - last time i checked plugs they looked right shade (light brown). Is there any adjustment / cleaning I can do or would a flat out (70 plus o err) blast do the trick?
Hazards dont work on one side - gotta be simple to anyone except me - garage reckoned dogy relay, any ideas folks ?

think there is a fuse for left and fuse for right indicators if my mem serves me right only one flasher unit.maybe thats for lights so either fuse or relay or bad connection.

Thanks guys for replies - but mine is 1.9dg not 2.1 which I think has additional sensor gubbins to go wrong.

As far as I know the Pierburg has nothing to twiddle to alter mixture (unless someone knows differently).... sooo what should I check / change?
CO is 4.86 v max limit 3.5. Am thinking usual - plugs, airfilter (or even remove this for the test), check choke is resetting when warm, any other ideas??

Just needs an 1/4 turn in on the mixture screw.
What gets me is this is idle mixture only and the carb quickly turns to the main jet once off idle.

Thanks Martin - I have found idle adjusting screw in exploded view in Haynes manual, will check it out tomorrow, but... I have vague recollection that there is a plastic plug stopping any adjustment - or did I just dream it??

As a guide, get engine ticking over fast enough then wind idle screw in until revs just begin to drop then quarter turn out. Unless air filter is clogged or it burns a lot of oil, that should set it well within specs.
