creaching noise in lower gears

Post by thepenguin »

Hi,

after a bit of advice for my 1989 1.6td t25.

Have just had new callipers, shoes and rea cylinders and when started the van a terrible screaching noise is heard when pressing the aclerator. This setlles down after a couple of mins but remains when pulling away in lower gears.

it seems to be comming from rear central area and thought that perhaps the starter had got dirt in it or something when the brakes were changed.

Also, seems to be a cable tie around a hose running to from driviers side (lhd)brake, should this be here?

thanks for any comments :?

Agreed - classic screeching alternator drive belt (fan belt).

You just need to tighten it to the correct tension

however check the belt condition first.. if it appears hard and "glazed", or there are cracks between the teeth, then replace with a new one.. they are not particularly expensive.

Too loose = slippage and reduced alternator output

Too tight = in the long term could cause bearing damage.
