Glow plugs stay on for 4seconds only

Post by jamiehamy »

I've been though the Wiki and searched on posts, but can't really find anything that matches my issue.

Van used to start on the button, regardless of hot or cold. Recently tho it's been a struggle to start and kicks out a plume of smoke (it will always start tho). I have noticed however that the glow plug light only stays on for 4 seconds, no matter whether hot or cold.

I'm driving it quite a bit just now, so posting in advance of some downtime to look at it.
From what I gather, the temperature sensor decides how long the plugs stay on for, so my first port of call is looking at the sensor( or probably just replacing since looking won't do much :)). Does this sound logical?

I'll do the other tests as described elsewhere, but thought i'd check with other people first?

Thanks, Jamie
