SORTED: guide rail cover (sliding door)

Post by Nicola&Tony »

Hi, I'm trying to remove the guide rail cover (so that I can investigate a problem with the sliding door) but the bliddy thing won't budge. I've removed the two screws and tried hitting along the bottom edge (using a hammer and a piece of wood as a drift) but there's a piece of plastic trim / bead that runs along the top edge of the cover which seems to be stopping any movement and I can't get this bit of plastic out either!

Has anyone got any tips for removing the plastic bead or the rail cover?

Does anyone know if the sliding door is checked as part of the mot? Only asking because ours is booked for tomorrow and I'm running out of time (and decent weather) to get our slider sorted before the test.

Cheers

Tony

Hi tony...there's no way the plastic trim will come off without the cover being off.
Don't pull the cover away from the van, just leave it at rest and tap it up.I know the tabs are in the way for it to come off but if you can get it to move a little bit then pull it away.the more you pull it away from the van the tighter it will be.once you have moved it a little it will become easier

You could try some hot soapy water, pouring along the top where the bead is, ths may assist the removal.

That worked like a treat! Makes a big difference when you use the right technique, thanks Weldore! :ok

Unfortunately our van is allergic to both soap and water! Thanks for the suggestion though.
