Wildcamping Map And Phone Apps

Post by weldore »

Just been on the wildcamping site and there's a thread about how to send a location by email when your out and about.
The app for Android is called Gps Share
The app for iPhone is called Here I Am
I've just tried it from home and sent myself the email and it has a link to Google maps showing your position.

Now I was wondering if it could be used to create a wildcamping map..say like the one we had in M/O
You could just be travelling along and see a suitable place and even if your just in the car you could email the location to someone who could put it on the forum.I'm not clever enough to do that but sending your location is a riddle lol
Just an idea

Just downloaded the iPhone app. For anyone else looking, there are two "Here I Am" apps, the correct one is the oone with the Google Maps icon and drop pin :)

i think ive done it :)

send all your emails to

8090clubmap@gmail.com

add a bit of info about the place in your email like..

if its a good spot to stay the night,
if its a good spot to stop for a few hours kip but not really a night stop,
if its a really nice place to relax for a few hours,

what the surrounding land is like,
add your forum user name too if you like.

i can add a variety different of markers on the map so at a glance you can see which is for sleeping or which are short stays where you could possibly grab an hour or so

its a pity the old map cant be found as i think martin is desperate to get some scottish locations. :ok

Not too worried as I can wild camp pretty much anywhere in Scotland and I'll add places to the map as I travel. ;-)
