Can you use a head gasket and strech bolts again?the head had been torqued up but not started.I only ask as i hate wasting money.For the story see my post on head gasket.I only started a new post as i had no reply's on last post just reads.Thanks.

My experience is that you should never, ever re-use stretch bolts, period.

thanks was just was a thought,i hate wasting money.Does any one have any tips on timing up a diesel lump? seen as we had just marked up the head and spare head had been sat around with no front pully on it.Must say i was hoping to be using the van after months of work on the body and could be on the way to thinking on moving on now.I dont seem to be having any fun any more.

Timing up the head is easy, you take off the rocker cover, then at the gearbox end of the head there is a flat cut out in the end of the camshaft, turn the camshalf until that flat is inline with the end of the head, there is a metal plate that slides in to lock it, you will also see that number one cylinder cam lobes are pointing upwards and number 4 inlet and exhaust valves are rocking :ok

The fuel pump timing mark is at about 4 o clock, there is a big round hole in the pump pulley that lines up in the mount, and the crank timing mark is on the Flywheel, have someone turn the engine over while you look thro the hole is the top of the bell housing, make sure they turn slowly otherwise you will miss it mate
