No Leisure Battery

Post by Ralph_Porter »

Hi, Just purchased a 1990 T25 with AutoSleeper conversion but it has no leisure battery and the lights apparently only run off the 12v even on hook up - Was thinking of having one fitted but it seems as though it may be an expensive job and due to space constraints may need to be a car battery rather than a large leisure battery, does anyone have any idea what the costs might be ?

I'm not convinced I need one but am intending to do some wild camping so not sure how quickly it'll flatten the main battery when using the lights etc

Toying with the idea of just taking a standalone pre-charged car battery in the passenger part to jump off or swap out IF I ever flattened the main - any thoughts on that idea ?

Any thoughts in general re this would be very welcome as this is my first camper ever!

Thanks

Ralph.

Take a look through the wiki (up there second from the left) and do some searching on here there's loads of info.

I have a second starter battery under the LH seat this is fed by a splitter relais.
I can go for over a week without needing external eleccy.

You can do this for under a 100 quid or a can go the full monty with proper batteries and flashy relays.

That's interesting so whilst running both charge up but only the main drains whilst the lights etc are being used ? how do you use the second starter in the event that you had flattened the primary ?

So you have the AS Trooper.
You'll find all your interior electrics on the leisure side can easily be transferred to an Aux batt.
Simply find a batt that fits in the box under the pass seat (code 100) then take a split charge relay (4 pin 70 amp from Maplin), fit it somewhere in the engine bay.
Get an 8mm cable and route it from the relay to the pass batt box.
Attach the cable to the split relay with 8mm on the thick pin
Attach the cable to the back of the Alternator on the big post

Earth the relay to the body from the small pin
Attach the trigger wire to the small pin on the split relay from the small pin on the alternator.

Extend the leisure cabling on your starter battery, under the van to the pass batt box
attach the leisure cabling to your Aux batt.

Along these lines

And if you mod the camper lighting/stereo to run from just the leisure battery there is no draw on the starter battery.

Split charge and leisure battery was an 'option' according to the Autosleeper wiring diagram
