Radiator fan / shroud replacement.

Post by Nick T »

Hi all :)

I've got to do a radiator fan & shroud replacement on my van (1.9 petrol) before Weds as I want to take it camping for the first time!
I've got a copy of the Haynes and it says I need to take the radiator off first, although I don't have to drain the system...

Is this right, or can it all be done in situ - I'm more computer programmer than mechanic, so if it's a rad off job then I'll phone round some mechanics in the morning to see if they can fit me in before the weekend

Cheers for the help :ok

it can be done in situ , i have done it .
be carfull as you will be strecting the hoses/ wires , but a little time and no problem

its a bit fiddly holding the radiator and undoing the mounts and when fittng as you need to lift , postition and fit the brackets

did mine all by myself so it is possible!

Removing the rad isn't such a hard job if it comes to that. I'm a computer programmer with no mechanical experience too and I've just replaced my radiator. But like billy says, it should be quite possible to do without removing the hoses :)

Lovely, cheers both for the responses - I'll get under the van and see what's what :)
