Door scrapers

Post by kentishvanman »

Hi,
Door scapers (outside ones).
Do they just pull off or do I have to remove the door card to enable me to relace them.
Thanks

Hi Don,

Will you let me know how you get on please? Planning on doing mine on Friday.

Cheers,

Buy a set of new clips - ideally, if you're doing both doors, buy three bags - you WILL drop some inside the door. They're fiddly, but there's a knack - which I've completely forgotten... I seem to remember a pair of small needle-nosed pliers being very useful.

Okay wicked thank you - Where did you get your clips from / what are they called?

Please let me know how you actually get the scrapers off aswell as on as I've not got a clue at the moment! :?

Cheers!

Wind the window down and pull the scrapers up and off.

Look inside the gap and check the condition of the clips inside the door. Mine were fine after 30 years (I assume)

The new scraper just pushes on and locates in the clips inside the gap

Ah that's brilliant!! Thank you!! I assume it's when the clips aren't okay that the difficult steps begin then! :ok

Clips are not hard to fit and as far as I am aware they are available from VW commercial dealers still

I started the removal by levering them off, used a thin bit of wood. Start at the front and mind not to split the quarter light rubber cos the end of the scraper sits under this by about 1/4". Once the front end is lifted the rest will just pull off. My clips are fine but gave them a squirt of WD40 and I put the old one back till I have finished painting.

Has anyone done this to a Caravelle with the stainless trim?
I really need to change mine too (outers) but I have stainless trim and opening quarter lights. I have been putting off the job as I don't want to damage any hard to find bits.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it!

The scrapers just pull up and off. Easy peasy

You can get new scrapers with the tat looking trim here if you are too heavy handed
