Wonder if anyone can help?
I have an "E" reg (1988) T3/T25, 2.1i, Campervan and one of the coolant hoses is leaking or rather the short rubber hose (approx 150mm long) between the "Distribution Pipe" and one of the "Front to Back" plastic pipes to radiator. It turns out that the hose clips had rusted away allowing water to escape, before a friend fitted new hose clips he took the short rubber hose off to find a smaller diameter (rusted out) metal tube (approx 75mm long) and what appears to be nylon "olive". Does anyone know where I can get these parts, their part numbers and how they fit together again? Any help will be truly appreciated.

I'm sorry to be so long winded but I have to rely on friends/family to get underneath to do repairs, as I have mobilty problems and cant do it myself, therefore information relayed to me is a bit sketchy but if you have a Dark Blue Haynes Manual for VW Transporter 1982-1990, please look at the diagram 5.5, its the rubber hose between items 15 &16, on page 3.5

Pete it sounds like the end of the front to back pipe has broken off, the nylon olive is the remains of the plastic pipe and the steel part is the internal reinforcement, they rust and can cause the plastic pipe to crack and then they weep and people put jubilee clips on and the tighten them up and break the pipe and they leak more so they tighten them more then the pipe distorts and leaks even more
generally it's better to use multiple jubilees to spread the seal when this happens, the oroginal spring clips usually get replaced with jubilees when engine's get swapped or join starts to weep
may be new front to back pipe time

These pipes/hoses have been on our vans for 20+ years and are corroded and worn out. Aidan described the plastic pipe issues. I had metal pipes but with the same basic problems. When my old pipes were taken off there was barely any metal left in places - paper thin and ready to burst. I replaced the lot with new stainless steel pipes and new hoses. I got most of my coolant pipes and hoses from Brickwerks, although I had to get one of my hoses at the rear from JK!!! Repacing the lot might seem costly but much better to do this than have a massive water leak on a motorway and the subsequent cost of a new engine. So if you can afford it, replace the lot then you need not worry about leaks for the forseeable future.
