Wipers not working on normal, one wipe and wash/wipe.

Post by Charlie1950 »

This all started because my windscreen washer pump did not work in my 1989 2.1DJ T25.

I ran a live feed to the pump which worked fine.

There was a live feed to the connector that plugs into the pump.

All wipers were working correctly at this stage, i.e. one wipe, normal and fast.

The rear window wash and wipe works fine.

When I disconnected the connector from the pump and tried the wash/wipe on the stalk, the wipers worked but the pump didn't.

When I re-connected the connector to the pump neither the wash or the wipe worked. Normal and fast did though.

Went through all the connections and determined all the connections that should be live are live.

I cleaned all the earth terminals on the crown earths.

Eventually cleaned the switch contacts on the stalk, and wonderfully the pump now worked!! (Wish I had done that first!!!!!)

Unfortunately now, the wiper doesn't work with the pump.

Additionally, the wipers do not work on the one wipe setting, nor at normal speed.

Tried a new relay without success, unless coincidentally that is faulty as well as my original, which would be a bit of a coincidence!

So what I am left with is if I push the arm down, I get nothing, I also get nothing on normal speed, I just get the washer but no wipe when I pull the stalk towards me, I get the rear wash and wipe when I push it away. When I push the stalk to the highest position I get the wipers on fast.

Any suggestions as to what the next step should be would help me from pulling what is left of my hair out.

Cheers,

Charlie.
