Give us a clue as to whereabouts on the dash this red flashing light is...?

Is it the one in the temp gauge?
Is it the oil pressure light?
Is it something else entirely that somebody's added sometime in the past?

If it is the temp gauge light, then you say it's "not short of water" - where? The main header tank or the overflow or both? If the main header's got plenty of coolant, try taking the temp gauge probe out and giving it a damn good clean - that worked for me, with a randomly paranoid light. It's in the back of the main header tank, the one you need to go in from above to get to.

Have you checked the real header tank or just the one behind the cat flap ?

its the Red light on the temp gauge and checked the header tank by the engine not the one under the flap?

Do a search and there is a few threads on testing the sensor circuitry ... normally it's the sensor that's failed or the multiplug on the dash pod furring up. You can test the sensor by taking it out and holding the 2 prongs in a glass of water the dash light should flash for a few times during self-test and then go out. If it doesn't then try disconnecting the plug and bridge the 2 wires ... once the ignition is switched on it should flash a few times during the self-test and then go out.

Report back.

:ok Check the multiplug below the dash pod next time it's doing it ... you'll have to switch off though to reset the sensor as once it's triggered it shouldn't go out.
