Engine cutting out when touching on accelerator

Post by amarchie »

Hi
Not too sure if anyone can help. I have a problem with the engine dying when i touch the accelerator. It is a particular position that seems to make it happen. At first I thought it was a clutch problem but it does it on idle when I touch the accelerator. Any ideas?? It is a T25 1.9 water cooled 1983

Many thanks
Amanda

Have you looked at the fuel filter? Maybe it isn't getting enough fuel when you ask it to run faster?

Stalling from idle is air leaking into the induction side of the engine or, blocked transfer jet, or accelerator pump diaphagm punctured.
Check your vacuum lines
brake servo hose
choke pull down unit (haynes)
gaskets
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)

Many thanks for all your advice, it is much appreciated. I am getting the van looked at today - so fingers crossed we can sort it out.

Thanks again
Amanda
