Help! changed the cluctch now i cannot select 2nd or 4th

I changed the clutch on my '88 1.9dg (using the wiki and haynes for reference) as it was slipping , and I have a wedding in wales to go to on Saturday. I must have knocked or buggered up something because now it wont go into 2nd or 4th. when looking at the bit on the side of the gearbox that selects the gears it seems like the bellows is fully compressed when trying to select 2nd or 4th, but its just not enough to engage it into the gears on the box! 1st 3rd and reverse seem to be ok and in the same position when selecting them in the cab. any help greatly appreciated as I really dont fancy a night in a holiday inn after the wedding..

did you drop the gearbox and forget to undo the selector rod?

Hi,, no i disconnected everything, when the selector was on the floor dangling by the UJ bit i think i 'nudged ' it a bit when I was shuffling the box back under,

you have put the rear bush plate on the rear of the boss on the side of the gearbox instead of the front of the boss so the rubber boots on the rear bush are preventing it all moving enough to select those gears, common mistake

I will have a look tomorrow first thing, do you mean the bit that bolts to the gearbox with 2 bolts and has bellows either side. it should go on the side that is closer to the front of the van.?

Sorted, It was obvious in the light of day what I had done was bolt the bit on the side of the gearbox behind rather than in front. thanks for the help. I am not much of a regular here any more but it very reassuring to know this forum is here.
