Hi
I have searched the WIKI to no avail....
I understand there are two different types of alternator that may be fittd to (19DG) WBX engines, and therefore two different types of fanbelt (lengths...) - but how do you know which alternator is fitted, without testing the output.... do they look different or have different plugs etc?
Thanks in advance ppl....

eh?
There are two types of alt available to fit.
the original 45 amp, which is absolutely adequate
or the 90 amp, which is for the insane
I fitted both and used the same belt for either.
they look identical but have different colour stickers. (green 45a red 90a)
Hmmmm, doesnt really answer the question.... how do I tell which alternator I have (there are no ID marks or stickers on it, and I have no other pulley size to compare it with - all it has is one plug on the back).
I've searched on Brickwerks and this is what it says for the 1075 belt and on the 1100 belt:-
"There are 2 sizes of belt fitted to the WBX
10x1075
10x1100
Please check the correct size before ordering.
According to the powers that be, the 1075 is meant to be for 90a alternator models, but this often is not the case.
The best idea is to check the size and replace whats on there."
I am currently using the 1075 (but a toothed version) so therefore THINK I must have a 90 amp alternator? The adjuster/slider is midwayish, so seems ok (van was originally a panel van, if that makes any difference....)
Is anyone else using a 'toothed' belt? (Mines a 'FAI' make - and was the recommended belt for my 19 DG from my local factors...) Would seem that a plain 'V' belt is in order....of the correct size?!

I did have a Bosch 65amp one fitted. Is that not standard?
The 65amp one had a black plastic plug with three conecctions in it. Two large pins and one small
The VW number on it was 068-903-025T
Here's a cross reference sheet but it does not mention the pulley length
I have a new Lucas LRA300 alternator fitted now which was £70. The auto electrician swapped my old pulley onto it so I assume it come with a longer pulley as standard

Yep, cheers for the correction ... I knew the 45amp was the slightly longer belt.

The notched belts were designed to go round smaller pulleys without deforming, I guess our's are quite industrial compared to many.
