stainless exhausts

I'm the new owner of a t25, it's got a stainless system on it to with a lamda probe, knocks really badly upon start up is there any way of sorting this as I'm sure in time it may just break the welds, also silly question but how do you tell if the engine mounts are knackered?

You would think broken engine mounts would be easy to see....but as the engine weight effectively compresses the mount there is often little or no sign when it's seperated.

I had a knock and decided to change all four of mine..3 out of 4 had completely parted company so well worth the time and effort.

Start the engine and look at the mounts as you rev the engine slightly - you will see the outer engine mounts wagging fresh air if shot, exhaust rattling on start up is the usual symptom. I bought mine from JK and they are Made in Germany, very pleased with them - no exhaust knocking now on start up!

So I bought the new engine mounts from JK, 2 unners and 2 outers, German made units.
Replaced them tonight which was a pain getting things undone, outers fit a treat but the inners are not working out well, the 2 lower bolt holes don't line up with the bar, think I'm going to have to remove them and elongate the hole, basically the tabs on the new mounts just aint long enough.
Plus the exhaust tube (speedshop I think) is almost touching the mount bar, probably 3mm clearance.
This has been sent to test me that's for sure!!!

Any suggestions about the clearance issue?

The JK parts may say german on them but I bet they are not quality german parts

If they don't line up or fit correctly replace them with tested quality parts from brickwerks and make sure you check there first and use JK as a last resort in future

I am having the same issue at the mo..... as money was tight I bought some mounts from a trader on Ebay ( yes I know ) anyhow the outer ones are fine but as you said the inner ones dont line up.... holes in the wrong place, also made in Germany ( apparently) so as soon as payday comes around I will have to order the inner ones from Brickwerks. At least the inners are the cheaper ones

It does annoy me somewhat when people sell sub standard products.... yes I except that they where cheaper and ' you get what you pay for' but they are sold to do a job...which they dont, so they will be going back to the seller for a refund.

The tabs on the lower mounts are only 3mm out so may elongate the hole to allow the bolt to gr through more easily, will use a large washer on both sides too just to spread the load. Do you think this will be adequate or not?

Got the mounts bolted up today, just drilled a little from the bottom of the tab followed by some filing, fits fine now, just need to fill up the coolant then fire it over and see if it knocks, sure it will as the exhaust is really close the the support bar.

No more knocking from the exhaust so new mounts are the way to go to stop it from banging upon start up.
